This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love in San Francisco. Many would consider this time the birth of free love and free thinking and when the post World War 2 American culture would change forever. At the epicenter of the hippy movement, San Francisco was fertile ground for musicians, artists, and free thinkers. The Bay area became a magnet for people from all over the world because of it's laid back, forward thinking atmosphere that still resides there today. The Summer of Love became a defining moment of the 1960s, as the hippie counterculture movement came into public awareness.
Jumbie has created this memorable work of art to celebrate this key time in human history. We owe much of our creative and expressive freedom today to the summer of love of 1967. What was counterculture is now the underground, and that is where we reside. And together we will stand for free thinking and creative freedom!
